Jodi Austin, Fitness Instructor

My love of fitness began in 1990 when I was a freshman at Virginia Tech. I went to Virginia Tech as an engineering major and almost immediately realized that was not the path I was meant to take. I changed my major to Exercise Physiology and found my joy. I got certified and started teaching classes for Tech Aerobics and also got up at 5 am (I have always been an early bird) to run with the men who were part of the Cardiac Rehab program at Virginia Tech. I truly believed I learned more about life on those morning runs than I did in any class I took. Working out and moving my body helped relieve stress and helped me find my people.
I went to grad school at Wake Forest, earning a master’s in Exercise Science and Cardiac Rehabilitation. I worked for two years at a Cardiac Rehabilitation facility in Stamford, Connecticut, before deciding to go back to school to get my teaching degree. I have been teaching 7th-grade Health & PE in Fairfax County for 25 years, and I love it! Inspiring others to move and appreciate the benefits of movement is truly my calling!
I joined KBC in 2013. Through this community, I have formed friendships that feel like family. I am thrilled to be coaching for KBC and sharing my love of movement with others. I hope people leave my classes feeling happy, empowered, and proud of what they accomplished!
